My car is an Oldsmobile Aurora '96. According to my mechanic the fan doesnt turn on when its suppose to. My mechanic disconnected the sensor so that the fan stays on, but he says take it to a electric shop ASAP, but its already too late since its almost Sunday. So what could be the problem? I mean he said the sensor is new, but somewhere in the electric system the fan doesnt respond to high temps.
Overheating problems?antivirus software
If the sensor is good, it's probably a bad relay in the circuit...find the relay in the fuse/relay block and try swapping it for another one in the relay block of the same type or number stamped on it to see if it solves the problem...don't forget to hook up the sensor again too. Some systems turn on the fans automatically when you switch on the a/c also. Eautorepair.net has wiring diagrams and factory repair info...small fee.

It has to be a sensor. I had a civic which had they same problem. The mechanic started to change all sensors until he found the right one which solved the problem. I dont remember which sensor it was since it was about 5 years ago.
Ok, so he by-passed the fan switch. Did he check the fuse for the radiator fan? Is the fluid full? Was the system properly checked for leaks? Is it free of air pockets? And was it properly bled? Did he dry removing the sensor and heating it up with a torch to confirm the problem? Is your mechanic a dumbass? - electronic shop?? its an automotive component!!
Take it to someone more competent. If its not overheating, you should temporarily drive it to a different shop.
could be the ecm!
