Hey im sure you know but there is pet stores in park meadows southwest plaza ect. but there is also the humane society out on quebec thats where we got our australian sheperd. but ontop of that there are hundreds of small pet stores that may be a little more friendly than those in the mall just look in the phone book trust me there is tons.
I would try a liquor store. If they don't have any there then try a shoe store, then a clothing store. If none of those pan out then perhaps a starbucks.

When you wake up from that nightmare you could go to a pet store or look in the local want ads under pets for sale. If you have a pennysaver, that might be another option.
I strongly recommend you find a dog through the Petfinder.com website, or a local humane society or breed rescue group. I recommend against finding a dog at a pet store since you don't know where they might have come from, but they can come from puppy mills, which are bad places.
